Colville Cobell Land Buy-Back Program
Expired as of January 26 2017
An Introduction to the Cobell Land Buy-Back Project
The Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations implements the land consolidation component of the Cobell Settlement, which provided $1.9 billion to purchase fractional interests in trust or restricted land from willing sellers at fair market value. Consolidated interests are immediately restored to tribal trust ownership for uses benefiting the reservation community and tribal members.
A resolution states: Whereas the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation have entered into an agreement with the Land Buy-Back Program for the Tribal nations to implement land consolidation activities at the Colville Reservation.
The Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal nations may include offers for fractional land interests on tracts with improvements at the Colville Reservation if a lease is recorded in the BIA title system.
The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation acknowledges that while improvements themselves will not be acquired through the Land Buy-Back Pro-gram for Tribal Nations offers,
their existence will be considered in the determining the fair market value of the underlying tract land.
The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation acknowledges that all Land Buy-Back Program for the Tribal Nations transfers into tribal trust owner-ship are subject to the terms of existing leases and encumbrances on the land.
Therefore, Colville Tribe re-quests that the Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations, include offers for fractional interests on tracts with improvements at the Reservation in the case of tracts without a recorded lease. The Colville Tribe will provide lease opportunities to individuals living on the tracts with improvements, but without a lease recorded.
Chairperson of designee has the authority to sign all pertinent documents.
